No events are coming in

A server that connects fine may still produce no events for several distinct reasons. Work through the checklist below.

Checklist

1. Check the server’s status

Open Servers. Two things matter here:

The Enabled column — if it’s off, heliana isn’t polling the server at all.
The Status column — it shows a badge per channel (RCON, SFTP). If the SFTP badge isn’t healthy, hover it for the last error and see Server won’t connect.

Fix: Turn the server on if it’s disabled. If the SFTP badge shows a problem, fix that first — events can’t flow while the log channel is down.

2. Verify Game server path

Saving a server only confirms heliana can write your admin whitelist file at that path — it doesn’t confirm the log file is where heliana expects it. If Game server path doesn’t actually point at your Squad install, the server can save successfully and still produce zero events.

Fix: In Server connection fields, confirm Game server path is the root folder of your Squad install — the one that contains Saved/ and ServerConfig/. heliana looks for the log under Saved/Logs/SquadGame.log relative to that path; if that subfolder structure doesn’t match your install, fix the path and save again.

3. Give it a few seconds

heliana polls the log continuously in the background — there’s no interval you set. Right after saving or enabling a server, allow a few seconds for the first read to happen before assuming something’s wrong.

Fix: Wait briefly, then check the Live feed again. If nothing shows up after that, continue down this checklist.

4. Check whether the server is idle

heliana only sees what Squad writes to its log. An empty or idle server — no one connecting, no chat, no squad activity — produces no log lines and therefore no events.

Fix: Join the server or have someone perform an action (connect, chat, switch squad), then check the Live feed again.

5. A freshly restarted server needs a moment

Right after a Squad server restarts, its log file starts tiny. heliana waits for the file to grow past a small size threshold before it can reliably track it — a log that’s still only a few hundred bytes won’t produce events yet.

Symptom: Events are missing right after a server restart, then start appearing on their own a few moments later once Squad has written enough to the log.

Fix: This resolves itself — no action needed, just give it a little time after startup.

6. Confirm the Live feed is showing the right server

The Live feed widget on the Dashboard is scoped to whichever server is selected at the top of the page. Switching servers there changes what the widget shows.

Fix: Confirm the right server is selected, and that the feed’s time range covers the period you’re checking.
